SKIN TYPES AND AROMATHERAPY

SKIN TYPES

NORMAL SKIN

It has excellent hydration, muscle tone, and resilience. Normal skin looks soft, supple amd has a healthy glow and color, fine texture, and there are no open pores or fine lines. The best example is that of children. It is the rarest skin types these days.

Normal skin requires cleansing, morning and evening, use of moisturizer durng the day to prevent moisture loss and hydrating creams at night. An occasional exfoliation is also beneficial.

(Just because the skin is in good condition, it does not mean to forget about taking care of it. It is important to prevent moisture loss and protect the skin from possible damage).

Essential oils: Battaglia (2003) recommends for oily skin essential oils such as: German chamomile, Neroli, Rose absolute or otto, Geranium, Palmarosa, Lavender, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang.

OILY SKIN

Excessive sebaceous gland activity causes clogging of pores, pimples and blackheads formation. The skin can be shining. For the care of the skin are needed: a toning facial cleanser, scrub, mask absorbing too much sebum, and gentle serum with essential oils and herbs. These remove exessive sebum, without drying the skin at the same time.

Essential oils: Battaglia (2003) recommends for oily skin essential oils such as: Bay laurel, Bergamot, Virginian cedarwood, Clary sage, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Juniper berry, Mandarin, Myrtle, Niaouli, Palmarosa, Spike lavender, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Tea tree, Thyme ct. linalool, Ylang Ylang. Those oils I have highlighted I have found most useful.

Carrier oils : If you are planning to create your own blend at home, choose among jojoba, evening primrose and apricot kernel oils. They are well absorbed through the skin.
